Automations overview

Automations send the right message at the right time, on their own. Build welcome series, birthday emails, re-engagement journeys, and cart-recovery flows once — then let them run for every contact who qualifies.

How automations differ from campaigns

A campaign is a single send to a list. An automation is an ongoing flow that reacts to events: someone subscribes, a birthday arrives, a tag is added, a field changes. When a contact triggers the flow, they enter it and move through your steps automatically — no manual sending required.

The anatomy of a flow

Every automation starts with a trigger (what enters a contact) and continues with a sequence of nodes (what happens next): sending emails, waiting, branching on behavior, updating contacts, and calling webhooks. You arrange these visually in the flow editor. See Triggers & nodes for the full list.

Common automations to build

  • Welcome series — greet new subscribers and introduce your brand over a few days.
  • Birthday & anniversary — send a timed message on a contact's special date.
  • Re-engagement — win back contacts who haven't opened in a while.
  • Cart recovery — remind WooCommerce shoppers who left items behind.
  • Onboarding by behavior — branch the journey based on who opens or clicks.

Plan limits

You can build as many automations as you like on every plan. Emails sent by automations are unlimited, just like your campaigns, and go out through your connected sending provider. Track who's in each flow and how it's performing under Contacts & reports.

Frequently asked questions

How is an automation different from scheduling a campaign? A scheduled campaign sends once at a set time. An automation runs continuously, reacting to each contact's behavior and timing, so every new subscriber gets the right message without you lifting a finger.

Can a contact be in more than one automation? Yes. A contact can move through several flows at once — for example, a welcome series and a birthday flow — each triggered independently.

Do I have to build flows from scratch? No. Describe the journey you want and let AI automation chat assemble it, then refine it on the canvas.
